The City of Perry received the WaterFirst Community designation by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) at the November 3 council meeting.

The WaterFirst program was launched in 2002 as a voluntary partnership between local governments, state agencies, and other organizations that work together to improve quality of life through the wise management and protection of water resources. A community receives this prestigious designation by going above and beyond state water regulations and demonstrating environmental excellence.

Program criteria include watershed management, stormwater management, water supply planning, protection, conservation, education, and regional planning. The community must pass an onsite review after a robust application process and management audit.

Perry is one of 37 Georgia communities designated as a WaterFirst Community.
