Starting a Business

Every business operating within the city limits of Perry must have a current City of Perry business license. Applications are received and processed online or at our Business License Office located on the first floor of City Hall, 1211 Washington St Perry, GA 31069.

Business Licenses

General Business Licenses
- Most businesses will need to complete an application for a General Business License. Also, the applicant must complete notarized affidavits (Affidavit Verifying Status and Private Employer Affidavit), Home-Based Business Acknowledgement Form (for businesses operating at a residential location) and provide copies of appropriate identification. License fees are based on the number of employees. Payment can be made by cash, check, or debit/credit.

Alcoholic Beverage Licenses
- Any business selling or distributing alcohol within the city limits of Perry must obtain an Alcoholic Beverage License before engaging in the sale or Distribution. After completing the Alcoholic Beverage application and related items on the checklist, please contact Elizabeth Nelson, Tax & License Specialist at 478-988-2740, to schedule an appointment.

  Upon submission of the alcoholic beverage application, the applicant, owners, and agent will undergo a background check by the Houston County Sheriff’s Department. All new Alcoholic Beverage License applications are reviewed by the City Manager, Mayor, and Council on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Upon approval, a copy of the alcoholic beverage licenses may be obtained from the Business License Office. No alcohol may be sold or manufactured until the state license is obtained and the original city license is released.
Coin Operated Machine License
- Coin Operated Machine License Licenses are required for any business that offers non-cash redemption coin-operated amusement machines.

Fruit/Vegetable Stand License
- Fruit/Vegetable Stand Business Licenses are required for anyone who displays harvested but unprocessed agricultural or forestry products with the purpose of selling to the general public. These licenses require the prior written consent of the real property owner.
