Perry Police Department Completes One Mind Campaign

The Perry Police Department was recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for meeting the requirements for the One Mind Campaign.

The Perry Police Department received recognition from the One Mind Campaign for fulfilling their pledge to improve their approach towards individuals with mental health conditions.

To complete the One Mind Campaign, the Perry Police Department established a sustainable partnership with a local mental health organization, Middle Flint Behavioral Health and Wellness, and developed and implemented policy to guide officer responses and interactions with individuals with mental health conditions. The Perry Police Department has also trained all officers in mental health awareness and response. Several officers completed an eight-hour course on mental health awareness, and a 40-hour mental health response course.

“This acknowledgment highlights the importance of our efforts to enhance our response to individuals with mental health conditions. Through our partnership with Middle Flint Behavioral Health and Wellness and the development of comprehensive policies, we've equipped our officers with the necessary tools and training to better serve our community. This recognition reaffirms our dedication to fostering understanding, empathy, and effective intervention in mental health crises,” says Police Chief Alan Everidge.

Over 180 agencies worldwide have completed the One Mind Campaign since its start by the IACP in 2016.
