The Georgia Department of Transportation, along with the City of Perry and the Federal Highway Administration, will be replacing the bridge on SR 7/SR 127/US 41 over Big Indian Creek.
Within the immediate vicinity of the proposed project area is Creekwood Park and Splashpad that is connected to the Rotary Centennial Park via a walking trail that runs beneath the subject bridge.
Due to safety and construction concerns, the portion of the trail located directly underneath the proposed bridge replacement that connects Creekwood Park, which includes a splashpad and playground, to Rotary Centennial Park will be closed for the entire construction period of the project, expected to last 12 months.
All other sections of the trail will remain open for the use of the general public and its recreation purposes will not be impacted. While the portion of the walking path that goes directly underneath the bridge will be closed for the 12-month duration of construction, it is important to note that neither Creekwood Park nor Rotary Centennial Park will be closed to the public.
Both recreational facilities maintain separate entrances, parking facilities, and trail systems that will not be impacted by the bridge replacement construction. Both recreational facilities will remain open to the public during the 12-month duration of construction.
Due to the minimal impact to either park, it is determined that the proposed project will have no adverse effect to these 4(f) resources.
Construction is anticipated to begin summer 2025.
