Love, Dolly Book Drive Turns a Legacy of Literacy Into Books for Perry Children

The City of Perry invites the community to honor Dolly Parton’s life and legacy by donating new children’s books to the Love, Dolly Book Drive through September 12, 2026.

All books collected will be donated to the Houston County Public Library to share with children in the community. The initiative celebrates Parton’s lifelong commitment to literacy and her belief in the power of books to inspire young readers.

“Dolly Parton showed us that a book can be so much more than pages. It can spark a child’s imagination, build confidence, and open the door to possibilities they may not have seen before,” said Autumn Camerion, Special Events Administrator. “The Love, Dolly Book Drive gives our community a simple but meaningful way to honor her legacy by putting books directly into the hands of local children. I can’t think of a more fitting tribute than helping her love of reading continue right here in Perry.”

New children’s books may be donated at the following locations:

City of Perry Administration Building (1211 Washington Street)
Visit Perry Welcome Center at Perry City Hall (808 Carroll Street)
Perry’s Bites & Beats Festival in Historic Downtown Perry on September 12

The drive will conclude during Perry’s inaugural Bites & Beats Festival, taking place from noon to 8:00 p.m. on September 12 in Historic Downtown Perry. The free festival will feature live music, food, shopping, and family-friendly activities.

Community members are encouraged to select books suitable for children and donate them at any collection location before the drive ends.
