Perry Police Department Responds to Involuntary Manslaughter Incident

On November 10th, 2023, at around 10 P.M. the Perry Police Department responded to 610 Marsha Drive in reference to a shooting. Responding officers found an unresponsive 13-year-old female inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Perry Hospital by Houston County EMS, where she succumbed to her injury. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting revealed that the shooting was not intentional. A 16-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and has been transported to a youth detention facility. The juvenile was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter.

On 11/13/2023, the victim’s brother, Tayler Tharpe, 17-year-old B/M, was arrested and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter for his role the shooting of the victim. Tharpe is currently being held at the Houston County Detention Center.

The 16-year-old juvenile offender involved with providing the gun used in the shooting remains in custody pending a juvenile hearing.
