Police Make Arrest In Vehicular Homicide

On July 18, 2022, at 9:32am, the Perry Police Department responded to the area of Larry Walker Parkway and Ball Street in Perry in reference to a person down. Upon our arrival responding officers determined a bicycle being ridden by John Houser of Perry had been struck while riding northbound on Larry Walker Parkway. The vehicle a 2004 Ford Expedition fled the scene.

The suspect vehicle was discovered on Elko Road near the Georgia National Fairgrounds. A search of the area by officers of the Perry Police Department, Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Department of Corrections K9 led to the apprehension of the driver of the vehicle Jay Reaves of Hawkinsville.

The incident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision and Reconstruction Team.

Mr. Reaves is being held at the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center charged with Vehicular Homicide 1st degree without bond.
