The City of Perry renewed their statewide distinction in the Georgia Department of Community Affairs PlanFirst program. The City was first awarded this designation in 2017.
The program recognizes the excellence in comprehensive planning and rewards communities that clearly demonstrate an established pattern of successfully implementing their Local Comprehensive Plan.
Mayor Walker commented, “it is absolutely critical to plan. We started out around eight years ago with a very intensive strategic plan. This plan is very important to ensure funds are utilized correctly.”
Communities who apply for the program are required to address four primary program criteria focused on having a proven record of plan implementation and success: goals, leadership, community participation, and implementation.
The designation is for three years and enables a PlanFirst community to take advantage of various incentives that include public recognition, eligibility for specific grant opportunities, and certain reduced interest loans.
