City of Perry Celebrates Distinguished African Americans During Black History Month

Posted on

The City of Perry is celebrating Black History Month by recognizing distinguished African Americans who made an impact on Perry.

Banners celebrating prominent Perry natives are placed along Historic Downtown Perry and General Courtney Hodges Boulevard with their picture and lists significant contributions to the community.

Council Member Phyllis Bynum-Grace spearheaded this project and worked with City staff to make this recognition a reality. Her mission was to connect all citizens with knowledge and reflection on the varied accomplishments of our African American community.

“I am looking forward to everyone getting an opportunity to see this project. I am honored to be part of building such a phenomenal foundation for the history of Perry,” said Council Member Bynum-Grace.

The City of Perry Black History Month celebration is also on the City’s website. A complete list of the distinguished Perry natives and additional information is available to the public.
