City of Perry Implements New PTV Registration & Operation Requirements

The City of Perry is implementing new Personal Transportation Vehicle (PTV) registration and operation requirements within Perry’s city limits.

To provide for the use and operation of PTVs on City streets, Perry Mayor and Council approved an ordinance that allows PTVs to be driven safely and conform to state and local laws within the Perry community.

A PTV is defined as any motor vehicle: with a minimum of four (4) wheels, capable of a maximum speed of less than 20 miles per hour, maximum gross vehicle unladen or empty weight of 1,375 pounds, and capable of transporting no more than eight people.

PTVs can only operate on public roadways within the City that have a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less, are not designated as part of the state or federal highway systems, and have not been designated as an unauthorized street by City Council.

Before any PTV can operate on an authorized street or parking area in the City of Perry, operators are required to register their PTVs and be permitted by the Perry Police Department. Registration requirements can be found on the City’s website.

PTV owners can contact the police department at (478) 988-2800 or register online to schedule an inspection appointment. If the PTV is in compliance with local and State law, a decal will be issued from the police department signifying registration.

More information about the new PTV requirements is listed on the City’s website.
