Firefighters and Citizens Receive Life Safe Award

In July, Perry Fire and Emergency Services (PFES) responded to a call regarding a reported person down at Planet Fitness in Perry.

When crews arrived, they found an unresponsive female laying on the floor inside the facility. Perry Fire Lieutenant Gerald Michel and his son, D’Andre Brisson, were at the gym off-duty witnessed the woman collapse and immediately went to assist her. The woman was not breathing or had a pulse. The men immediately initiated CPR.

Planet Fitness employee Tiffini Fernandez quickly rushed an AED which was able to revive the woman. PFES personnel remained with her until EMS crews arrived. She was alert and talking while waiting to be transported to a medical facility. If the initial live=saving efforts of Lieutenant Michel, D’Andre, Ms. Fernandez, and the PFES Rescue-1 crew directly resulted in saving the life of Mrs. Janet Shoenfelt.

Perry Mayor and Council recognized these individuals with a Life Save award and the highest appreciation from the City of Perry.

A special thank you to Mrs. Shoenfelt for her kind words at the September 6 council meeting.
