Mayor Walker Shares City Progress at State of the Community

Mayor Randall Walker joined the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce for the annual State of the Community luncheon, highlighting major projects shaping Perry’s future – from infrastructure and innovation to neighborhood revitalization.

Investing in Infrastructure

The City identified 10 priority projects this year—six focused on infrastructure.

  • Wastewater Treatment Plant: On time and on budget, expected to be complete by year-end and operational in early 2026.

  • Supporting Upgrades: A new force main on the Bear Branch capacity expansion will strengthen service for growing neighborhoods.

  • Road Projects: The Commodore Drive extension and Swift-Commerce improvements are easing traffic and connecting key corridors.

  • Water Resilience: Work is underway to address water issues near the Sadie Heights subdivision and add backup power at the City’s water plant to ensure continuous water service during emergencies.

Embracing Innovation

Part of Perry’s long-term vision is to become a center of excellence for emerging technology. With the Grand Farm Initiative (partnering with the University of Georgia) and changing missions at Robins Air Force Base, Perry is poised to attract high-tech investment. A growing number of remote workers, representing 36 states, already call Perry home for its quality of life and safety. The City’s Technology & Entrepreneurship Advisory Board continues guiding this vision forward.

Strengthening Neighborhoods

Mayor Walker reaffirmed Perry’s commitment to its historic neighborhoods – the “heart and soul” of the city.

Recent initiatives include:

  • Replacing century-old sewer lines in older areas.

  • Acquiring $9 million in grants to repair and improve existing homes.

  • Removing blighted properties to enhance safety.

Growing with Purpose

Perry’s growth remains intentional. Every project is geared towards protecting what makes Perry special while preparing for a strong, sustainable future.

“Our goal is simple,” Mayor Walker said. “We’re building a city that supports growth, embraces innovation, and keeps Perry a place we’re proud to call home.”
