Perry Awarded Over One Million Dollars for Housing Rehabilitation
The City of Perry was awarded over one million dollars in grants by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs earlier this month.
Perry received the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $686,926 and the Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) grant in the amount of $400,000.
The CDBG is a federally funded block grant to states that focus on benefiting low to moderate-income people by providing resources for livable neighborhoods, economic empowerment, and decent housing.
The CHIP program is a federally funded grant designed to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing in Georgia by granting funds to city and county governments, public housing authorities, and nonprofits.
“The grants will allow us to continue our housing improvement efforts in Perry through our strategic phased plan – all part of a Revitalization Area Strategy,” says Holly Wharton, City of Perry Community Planner. “Perry is honored to continue working with our partners at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs through the CHIP and CDBG programs.
Specifically, this year’s CDBG award will be used to begin work in the Oldfield neighborhood.
In addition, Perry received an award for having a Revitalization Area Strategy for Oldfield.
