Mayor and Council Recognize Perry's 200th Birthday Celebration

Posted on

Mayor and Council recognized Perry’s 200th Birthday at the first Council Meeting of the year.

Perry, Georgia, founded in 1824, was named after War of 1812 hero Oliver Hazard Perry, and it was the first municipality in Houston County.

Boasting an industrial past, Perry's population surged after Interstate 75's completion in the 1960s. In 1990, it became a regional agriculture center with the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter. Today, Perry's historic downtown, a vibrant hub, hosts events that unite residents and foster a sense of belonging.

In addition, members of the Perry Area Historical Society & Museum presented Mayor and Council with locally grown daylilies, named after Oliver Hazard Perry.

We encourage everyone to participate in the 200th Birthday Celebration throughout the entirety of 2024!
