The City of Perry declared a local state of emergency at a special called council meeting on March 20, 2020.

The declaration states “the city of Perry has experienced an event of critical significance as a result of COVID-19…in the judgement of the Mayor of the City of Perry, there exist emergency circumstances located in the city limits of Perry, Georgia requiring extraordinary and immediate corrective actions for the protection of health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Perry.”

Council unanimously approved the declaration allowing Mayor Walker to take any administrative action without multiple hearings requiring a vote from council. This will streamline the process to ensure the City continues to provide quality services in a rapidly changing environment.

“We want to make it perfectly clear the City of Perry is open for business. Our services are modified to protect our citizens and our employees from the virus. The Perry business community is also open for business. We ask everyone to follow CDC guidelines and social distancing,” said Mayor Walker.

There are no plans to issue a City curfew unless directed by state and/or federal authorities.
