Phyllis Bynum-Grace District 1 Post 1
Council Member Phyllis Bynum-Grace was elected to council in 1998. A council member for nearly 25 years, she retired from the Houston County Board of Education as a school nurse. She is a member of the school Nursing Association and serves on the boards of Kid’s Journey, Safe Kids of Houston County, and a worker at the Camp Can Do Summer camp for children with disabilities. Ms. Bynum-Grace served as Mayor Pro-Tempore in 2002, 2008, and 2015. She is also inducted into the Municipal Government Hall of Fame in 2016. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Bynum-Grace spearheaded many City projects to include the Creekwood Splashpad, Legacy Park, and the “Honoring the Past. Inspiring the Future” Black History Month banners recognizing distinguished African Americans who made an impact in their hometown of Perry, Georgia.
